Art & history buff, beach bum, foodie, curiosity seeker, adventure & thrill seeker — These are just some types of travelers that I’ve defined during my travel journey. So, what kind of traveler are you? This question may seem broad in its quest for an answer. And, of course, the type of traveler you are can evolve and change over time. For example, our relationship status — single, parent, senior, empty nester –may affect our travel choices. For example, most parents with young children wouldn’t book a trip to go bungee jumping or scale Mount Everest. But this may be on the parent’s travel wish list as a singleton or as a couple. You get the picture.

So what kind of traveler are you? Are you a…

Art & History Buff…

one who is very interested in educating themselves and taking tours about every historical sight, museum, and church they can visit. They usually have researched where they are going beforehand and apply this knowledge to their trip.

Curiosity Seeker…

one who is always looking to learn and broaden their horizons. Typically, these travelers are open minded with a desire to educate themselves about everything they can. Researching their destinations and planning their travels in detail is of paramount importance. Count me in as one these!

Many times, these traveler are families with young children. As parents, exposing and educating our kids about places, people and cultures is of the utmost importance. Teaching our children about the world and to be curious about the world is their goal.

Beach Bum…

is one who travels to enjoy the sun, surf, pool … and maybe a tropical drink or two! No interest in anything but sun and relaxation. No tours or historical sites for these folks. And we all know friends and family that fall into this category. Honestly, this type of vacation is necessary for everyone at some point. Agree?

Foodie…

is a more recent phenomenom. A foodie’s main goal when traveling is to experience the local cuisine. The destination matters, up to a point, but the journey is all about what you eat for every meal. Finding the hippest new restaurant or the best “cheap eats” is part of your itinerary.

I have to say that my family evolved as foodies in our travels. Participation in cooking classes and food tours provided not only a hands on and insightful journey into different cultures but resulted in some of our fondest travel memories

Nature Lovers…

spend their vacations outside, exploring all that nature offers. Hiking, camping, bird watching, star gazing are just a few of the things they enjoy when traveling.

National parks are a big part of their travel journey. Read about my family’s National park adventures by clicking here:https://followmyyellowbrickroad.com/?page_id=280

Thrill Seeker…

seeks out the most risk in their journeys. It’s all about adrenaline. Thriving on the thrill of an excursion is what makes them travel. Soaking up every experience in life, no matter how dangerous, is their mantra. They simply don’t let danger dissuade them.

Psychology Today sums it up best. “The trait describes people who chase novel, complex, and intense sensations, who love experience for its own sake, and who may take risks to pursue those experiences. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/sensation-seeking

I’m the first to admit that I do not fall into this category!

“Hybrid”…

I believe that the majority of travelers are, what I call, “hybrid travelers.” A little bit of this and a little bit of that. We may not fit into every category but we fit into more than one. As travelers, there may be times when we wish to immerse ourselves in the history of a major city. Other times, we need to recharge and go to that beach resort.

Variety in travel, as in many aspects of our lives, is truly the spice of life!
